    Data availability - 2007

    To whom it may concern:

My name is Priya and I work on commodity developments in Latin America at the International Monetary Fund. In order to do so, we have been putting together information from WITS, using the SITC Classification 3. We have been getting data on commodities with partner countries = World or with partner countries = China for our purposes.

The WITS system only has data up to 2006. We are in urgent need of 2007 data so we can discuss how countries have responded in 2007 to the food and other price shocks.

Would it be possible to let us know the following: 1) what data is available right now on 2007 for Latin American countries; 2) could we access this information, even though it is only preliminary?

    Thank you very much,

    Priya

    Re: Data availability - 2007

There are about 40 datasets of 2007 data have been published. However, not all of them are available on SITC Rev.3 due to not-yet-available conversion tables between HS2007 and SITC Rev.3.

You should try to reach your goal using other classification, such as combining SITC Rev.3 and SITC Rev.4

    Update:

As of July 2007, 2007 data is also available in SITC Rev.3 Classification

Is this the link you use to tell us what is available?

    http://comtrade.un.org/db/mr/daYearsResults.aspx

Also, I think this is a link that tells us the most recent data uploads. I'm trying to get a sense of when 2006 data was completely uploaded (% of countries uploaded as a function of time for a given classification) and I think this is where I should look.

    Re: Data availability - 2007

I put up a snapshot of availaibility by classification and year in an excel (xls) file. Please take a look and let me know if it is helpful.

     posted it here:

    (see the link to SEPT26)

Looks like some classifications have less country coverage.

Construction of this file proceeded with these steps:

    1) import data into excel

    2) get rid of extraneous columns

    3) convert text to columns (comma separated)

    4) used counta( ) function to get a count of countries.
